Feasibility Study of Carbon Credit Projects in Agriculture and Forestry using Satellite Remote Sensing Technology to calculate the amount of carbon accumulated covering 9 forest areas with total area of 170,556 hectares.

On January 8, 2025, Carbon Registry Thailand Co., Ltd. (CRT), led by Mr. Alexander Wan, CEO of Star Century Group and CEO of CRT, and Mr. Chalatchai Sundara-Vicharana, Executive Director of CRT, collaborated with Carbon Credit Lao Co., Ltd. (CCL), represented by Mr. Phouseuth Keophouvong, CEO of CCL, to report the results of a feasibility study on calculating carbon accumulation using satellite remote sensing technology. The study covered nine forest areas totaling 170,556 hectares.

The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thoumthone Vengvisouk, Deputy Director General of the Department of Forestry. During the session, Dr. Thoumthone expressed his appreciation for the company’s commitment to sustainable forest management, emphasizing the protection of forest resources and the involvement of local communities in the project area. He also commended the use of satellite remote sensing technology, highlighting its scientific reliability and accuracy in calculating carbon accumulation within the project area.

Following the presentation of the feasibility study results, the meeting concluded with a resolution directing all relevant departments under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to provide comprehensive support. This includes offering in-depth information on the project areas and engaging with the public to ensure successful registration and certification of the project for carbon credits by the third quarter of 2025.

Additionally, the meeting explored future collaborations, including a feasibility study on calculating carbon accumulation in agricultural projects such as rubber plantations and orchards in Lao PDR. Dr. Thoumthone, representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Lao PDR expressed strong support for expanding the use of satellite remote sensing technology to measure carbon accumulation across forestry and agricultural sectors in the country. This initiative aligns with Lao PDR’s broader commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and promoting the widespread adoption of innovative technologies to manage and preserve natural resources sustainably.
